Remi smiling in an apple orchard

Welcome to The All Purpose Kitchen, a food blog of original recipes for the home cook! Every recipe is: reliable — you’ll never have to wonder if a recipe is thoroughly tested; accessible — the techniques and instructions are achievable for any home cook; and presentable — every recipe is guest worthy.

My name is Rémi, and I’m excited to share my recipes and culinary insight with you. I’m a chef, engineer, circus artist, food nerd, fitness enthusiast, home bartender, and very lucky husband. I’ve spent 5 years working in and leading restaurant kitchens, and a lifetime daydreaming about food. Not a day goes by that I’m not cooking, and not a minute goes by that I’m not thinking about what I’m going to cook. Sharing my food is the means by which I connect with the people around me, care for my friends, and spread joy. Through recipes, techniques, advice, inspiration and fun facts, I’m here to make sure that you’re excited about every bite that you eat!

The All Purpose Kitchen is your one stop resource of recipes for any occasion — weeknight, Sunday sauce, potluck or holiday centerpiece; main course, side dish, breakfast, dessert and condiment. All of the recipes at The All Purpose Kitchen are rigorously tested, and meticulously documented. You can trust that the recipes here are reliable, and take the anxiety out of choosing the right recipe for your busy life.

The recipes include some novel concepts, some culinary fusions, and some versions of classics, all original, and altogether spanning every niche and occasion. The unifying theme is that each recipe is reliable, accessible, and presentable. Every recipe is designed for the home cook working from a home kitchen; and every recipe is written to be accessible and easy to follow, avoiding prohibitive cooking techniques and obscure specialty ingredients. Flavor is my number one priority, and I will not task you with a single step that does not directly improve the outcome of a recipe.

In the blog posts you’ll find helpful recipe walk-throughs, kitchen techniques, answers to common questions, or suggested wine pairings. For the more passionate cook, you’ll also find deeper dives into the food history or science behind a recipe. All of the content is worth your time and designed to expand your culinary knowledge. At every stage I ask myself: what do you want to know about this recipe, and why should you get excited about eating it?

Check out my interview with Good Day OC to hear more about my vision for The All Purpose Kitchen, and how it all got started. If you have any questions, suggestions, requests, or just love a recipe, I would love to hear about it!
